John Walker Trophy

On Sunday I traveled with Kathryn down to Little Milton in Oxfordshire to contest in the John Walker Trophy. The race was a National B and a high standard of riders were on the start sheet. Arriving at the HQ, the weather was warm with hardly any wind all indicating it was to be a fast race.

Starting at 1:30 in the afternoon we set off from the HQ and got started, after the neutral section, on the 4 3/4 laps of the circuit which was a total distance of 75 miles. With the conditions the way they were the race was extremely fast and at times I was struggling to hold on. After 2 laps a large break of around 20 riders went clear. However this was rode back by the bunch after a lap and a big chase.

On the final lap, 2 riders attacked and managed to get a gap including Rob Orr of Planet X. They managed to maintain the gap and they were joined by another 7 riders inside the final miles of the race. The break managed to stay away until the end and the bunch sprint was for 10th. I managed to take 14th on the line which was a great result in what was a fast race. Matt Cronshaw of Madison Genesis won the race.

The 14th place result earned myself 9 points which takes me to 201 BC Points overall which is enough I needed to earn my first category licence which made it a very memorable day!
