Getting Ready For The Season Ahead

Since the end of January I have moved from Base Training and long miles to some harder training in preparation for what is planned to come. This year focusing more on hard efforts (predominantly zone 5) rather than zone 3 or 4 which will hopefully help when the pressure is on during the middle of the race.

To help also make it interesting I have been keen to ride on the track as much as I feel I can, which helps keep the training hard but more so fun. This has involved riding the track league on a Tuesday nights and most recently last Friday where I participated in a Structured Quality Training Session using the Derny. The session also involved training for a Madison which I really enjoyed.

I have rode two Reliability Rides as well to keep the endurance in check which were the Welland Valley CC Reliability Trial and The VC Rutland Reliability Trial. Both were over hard routes with the Welland Valley Ride heading out on a hilly route from Lubenham in South Leicestershire over to near Lutterworth and then heading out well into Northamtonshire and back to Lubenham.

To start the VC Rutland Ride we heading out from Oakham Cycle Centre towards Seaton and then across into Leicestershire toward Medbourne, and Hallaton then heading back into Rutland taking the Hilly Roads through Tugby across to Great Dalby, through to South Witham and then taking a long route back to Oakham to finish at the Grainstore Brewrey.

Over the next few weeks the training will continue to be on the harder side with the hope it will make it a little more common making those breaks and helping when the racing gets hard. The season started in January, but races will be coming much more frequently over the coming weeks so I am hoping to be in good shape. I am also hoping this different approach to the year will be beneficial.
